Vernon Leroy Slusher April 27, 1927-November 8, 2020 Vernon Leroy Slusher was born in Coffeyville Kansas, April 27, 1927 to Eugene and Mildred Slusher. In 1943 Vernon joined the Navy. He was Carpenters Mate on the troop transport ship the USS Taladega. The ship carried Marines from different Pacific battles including Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After Vernon’s honorable discharge from the Navy he married his first wife Jenny and raised their five children in El Sobrante. After thirty six years of marriage Jenny passed away. Vernon had a long career as a sheet metal worker, retiring as a manager. In 1989 Vernon married Beverly Wagner. Together, in retirement, they traveled across the country in various motor homes. They also had a winter home in Yuma, Arizona. Vernon is survived by his wife Beverly Slusher, daughter, Barbara Pretel, step son Mark Wagner and wife Joanie, step daughter Susan Burt and husband Mark, daughter in law Robin Slusher, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vernon is preceded in death by his sons Bordon, Bert, Benny, and Bruce. A private burial will take place at Sacramento Valley Nation Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California.
