Marjorie (Midge) Walsh August 3, 1923 – June 20, 2022 Marjorie (Midge) Walsh was born in Oakland, CA, August 3, 1923, the second daughter of Burnell and Helen Hiller, and spent over 50 years in Vallejo, CA, graduating from Vallejo High School (VHS) in 1941. There, among other things she was active on the cheerleading team. She was a proud VHS alumna and spent many years on the reunion committee. Midge worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph at a time when telephones were converting from manual switchboards to customer dialing. Midge married Thomas (Tom) Walsh in 1945; they were happily married for 60 years until his death in 2005. Their life together was full of family life, community service, friendships, and adventure. Early on, they built a summer cabin in Lake County, and enjoyed many years there, surrounded by friends and family. With the limited space, accommodations were tight, but there was always great food, drink, and frivolity. After Tom’s retirement, they travelled extensively throughout the world on one whirlwind trip after another, including trips with the Elks and “SIRS” (Sons in Retirement.) Midge and Tom moved from Vallejo, to Green Valley in 1977, where they built their final home. Midge was an avid golfer, having played in Lake County, at Blue Rock Springs in Vallejo, and continuing at Green Valley. There she played with the ladies “18-holers” and “9ers” well into her 90th year -- and sometimes with her grandsons. Midge enjoyed games, especially bridge, and exclaimed less than a week before her death that she “won” at bridge that day. She was an avid sports fan. She watched golf, football, baseball, and basketball. She could name the players on the 49rs, SF Giants, and Golden State Warriors. She was thrilled to see the Warriors win the NBA finals and never missed a chance to call out the opposing team’s players and fans or the ref’s bad calls. Midge lived life on her terms. She insisted on not just staying in her home but managing every aspect and maintaining it, with minimal help. She continued to drive, and her license was renewed on her 98th birthday for another 5 years. You couldn’t count her out to renew again in 2026. Although Midge would have turned 99 in August, her death was unexpected. While she outlived her husband, Tom, and most of her friends, she never considered herself old. She had no need to see a doctor and routinely said she had no aches, pains or stiffness. She said her secret was good clean living. Whatever it was, she lived a charmed life. Midge’s love for and dedication to Tom was unwavering after Tom’s death in 2005. After nearly 17 years apart, they will now be reunited. Midge will be missed by her surviving family: son, Tom (Sue) Walsh; daughter, Carole (Gary) Arneson; five grandsons, Jeff (Shavonne) Walsh; Mark (Claudia) Walsh; Sean (Rebeckah) Walsh; Gary (Kristina) Arneson; and Pat (Alex) Arneson; and seven great grandchildren.
