Irene A. Gilio Irene Agnes Gilio (Mom) was born on March 9, 1926 into a Polish Catholic family in Massachusetts, and baptized into the Roman Catholic faith. She was the 3rd youngest of 11 children to Frank and Agnes Witwoski. Irene Agnes met Angelo Aloysius Gilio (the youngest of 13 children from an Italian Catholic family and WWII veteran) on Easter Sunday at an NCO Club dance in 1952. They received Holy Matrimony on July 19, 1952 vowing to become husband and wife “until death do us part”. The family was permanently transferred to Travis AFB in California in 1957 where they raised nine children in the Catholic faith at Holy Spirit Parish. Besides family and religious activities, she enjoyed reading, travel, playing cribbage and walking. She passed away on September 10, 2020 of natural causes. Irene Agnes is predeceased by her husband Angelo (1919-2006) and her eldest son, Michael Angelo (1953-1978). She is survived by eight children: James John Gilio (Mary), Mary Ann Luzier, Joseph Gilio (Kathleen), Angela Eileen Van Steyn (David), Rose Marie Asquith, Patricia Ann Tamplin, John Francis Gilio, and Anne Quiner (Scott) and many other relatives, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 10:00am Monday September 21 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Fairfield.
