Beverly Ann (Purper) Karr was born in Baltimore, MD to Bertha and John Purper, the youngest of 3 children, brothers John (Billy) and Mike. She grew up in Baltimore, graduating from Western High School. Soon thereafter she was swept away by a handsome Airman from California, Paul to whom she married at the tender age of 18. Over the years they moved throughout the country, settling in Fairfield, CA. upon Paul’s retirement from the Air Force. Beverly was an incredibly intelligent and strong woman. She spent many years working and raising her 4 daughters, sometimes on her own when Paul was deployed overseas. She instilled confidence in her daughters, and encouraged them to be independent, outspoken and respectful. She worked many jobs throughout her life, ultimately retiring after 25 years from Solano County Health and Human Services Dept. as a Staff Analyst. However, her most important job was being a mom and wife. She was Girl Scout Leader to her daughters’ troop. She taught her girls at an early age to play Scrabble- never letting them win so they could experience the sweet success of finally beating her. She also enjoyed cooking, reading mysteries, sewing, painting, camping with Paul on the boat at Lake Shasta, their (now deceased) dogs Woofer and Max, and coffee visits with her friend and neighbor Marge. Beverly was proud of her family and enjoyed the loud crazy holidays and events when everyone was together. She was loved dearly by her family: Paul, her husband of nearly 62 years; her daughters and sons- in- law: Robin & Brian Bright, Lauri & Jim Carpenter, Terry & Larry Cooper, Tanya Karr & James Stratton; Her grandchildren and their spouses: Matt & Eddy Karr, Nick & Ariann Cooper, Chris & Julie Bright, Tim & Abby Cooper, Stefanie & Joshua Villasenor, Michael Karr; and her adored great grandchildren: Anja, Madelyn, Noah, Evelyn, Samuel and Jameson. She is also survived by brother Mike, sister-in-law Frannie and many nieces and nephews. After years of battling health problems, Beverly passed away on January 1, 2021 at the age of 80. She will start the new year at peace and free of pain, reuniting with her parents, brother Billy and sister- in- law Rusty who went before her. A private family committal service will be held on January 25th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Sturge-Weber Foundation, PO Box 418, Mt. Freedom, NJ 07970.
