Obituary for Ernest Reece Smalley
Ernest R. “Pete” Smalley passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, March 7, 2010 after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. He was a long time Fairfield and Solano County resident of 64 years. He was born on Feb. 19, 1923 in Eagletown, Oklahoma. He married Mary D. (Aitken) Smalley on February 19, 1949. He was the son of Adolph and Cora Gustafson of Vallejo who preceded him in death.
Ernest was a consummate family man, always putting his family’s needs first and foremost. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and working on cars. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and enjoying his grandbabies. He was a highly decorated WWII veteran having served in the US Army. He served his country fighting in North Africa, Italy and the invasion of Normandy.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; daughter, Linda Hoffman and husband, Buck of Springfield, MO; son, Robert Smalley and wife, Rebecca of Spencerport, NY; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister in-law, Ulita Wallis of Yreka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
